Pullip Princess Customs - Merida
When it came time to customize Merida, her eyes were by far the most challenging.
Pullip Eternia is a bit older than Peter Pan and Captain Hook (from 2006, vs. 2009). Her stock eyes are called “rubbers” – they’re a flexible, rubbery plastic instead of hard. Rapunzel and Howl’s stock eyes could be removed by poking them from behind with a screwdriver; Merida’s eyes had to be cut out with an Xacto knife.
Are you cringing? Because I sure was. That was the point where I was fervently praying that Toy Story wasn’t real. (And if it is, I AM SO SORRY.)
On the good side, Merida’s new eyes are just beautiful. They’re turquoise and blue double-colored chips, and with the silver backing, they just sparkle. They’re a much deeper, richer color than pictured on the CoolCat site.
Next, I got a happy surprise this afternoon – Merida's wig arrived from Monique! It's a Mallory in Double Red, and it is PERFECT. Look at this:
This wig is CRAZY. Like, I am terrified of maintaining this thing. It's a huge pain to put on, and it's so heavy that it will make Merida topple over if I breathe on her wrong. But it's just so perfect-looking:
Her hair is held back with a ribbon in this picture. Can you tell? No you can not, that's how crazy this hair is.
A shot of all my Pullip Princesses thus far:
I need to get a 1/6-scale frying pan. Rapunzel's feeling left out in the weaponry department.
As for Howl, his eyes are continuing to challenge me. I gave him Eternia's stock rubbers - but unfortunately, nothing wants to cooperate! The first time I reassembled him, his eyes were constantly looking up in a weird way. The next time, the rubbers kept falling out. I think I'm going to have to break down and order him his own set of chips – which is less than optimal, as every time I go on CoolCat, I just want to order ALL THE PRETTY COLORS. Hopefully I will have a good update on him soon!

Wow!! Merida looks amazing!! Her eyes and hair are perfect.
I must confess, I have a hard time with doll customization due to the Toy Story movies. I just recently had to perform a body swap on my original Disney Store Rapunzel doll because she had a huge crack in her neck. I was a nervous wreck, and I kept feeling like I needed to apologize to her. :} But man, cutting out someone's eye chips? Yikes!! I don't think I could be that brave!
Oh, by the way, I ended up returning Taeyang. He was an extra that I really didn't need, and I ran the risk of paying more for him than I should if his outfit didn't sell for as much as I wanted it too. Plus, it just bothered me to spend $40 on a doll with a foot that kept falling off. It was one of the hardest returns EVER, though. I knew that I was passing up a pretty unique opportunity to own a really expensive doll. I feel good about my decision now. It was the right choice. And at least I got some great photos for a later review post. ;)
Talk to you later! Can't wait to see Howl's new look. :)
Merida looks fabulous!
Thank you both!
The Toy Story thing only really comes into mind when I'm doing something that creeps me out (like the eye thing). I guess I rationalize it by thinking that, if we all thought of our toys as sentient creatures that care about us, we'd never get rid of anything and all become hoarders. :D
I figured, when I didn't see anything on Taeyang in your posts, that he'd gone back. Frankly, mine is being a giant pain right now, so I can't say I blame you!
